Maybe it’s just me, but when I play a ‘bad’ game or experience a bad element of a game, I usually have one of two reactions: rolling my eyes and getting irritated, or just laughing. I had no clue what to expect when I started playing this game but honestly – I really enjoyed it. There are story elements that make no sense, combat gimmicks that make you want to rip your hair out and design choices that make you think, “Who the hell approved this?”. I know, this doesn’t sound good, does it? I feel like I just described a semi-pornographic B movie. The six Intoners and four Disciples in the game are the main characters you will get to know – and believe me when I say they talk about that a lot. All the sisters except Zero and One have a male Disciple who acts as a bodyguard, as well as helping to satisfy the Intoners… other desires. Her sisters are also Intoners, which are god-like beings who can wield magic via the power of song, and as a notable trait, all have a very high sex drive (yes, this is actually important – thanks Japan). The game is split into chapters, which are split into Verses, which are levels essentially. The Drakengard series is a strange beast, and while I could go on about the dark charm of the original or the trainwreck that is the second game, what I really want to talk about is the third entry in the series and why it is the one I would recommend the most.ĭrakengard 3 is an action RPG (well, mostly…) that follows Zero, an ‘Intoner’, who alongside her dragon Mikhail is out to kill her five sisters (who are named One to Five, respectively). Zero is featured at the front of this promotional artwork featuring the protagonists of the Drakengard trilogy as well as NieR’s protagonist.
